What A Fast 1st Month!

Yesterday marked Laney and Madilyn's first month and what a fast one it was! I swear I can't think of what happened most of those 30 days! It's funny because although they've been here a month they weren't technically full term until this past Friday. They've made lots of changes over the past month and I think it really makes a difference that now they're "full term". At first they both slept sooo much...how easy for mommy. But now they're both awake so much more and really love being talked to and entertained. It can be a little difficult when they both want the same things at the same time; after all there's only one of me and only 2 hands to work with. It makes for lots of crying and waiting for your turn...and lots of guilt for mommy:) But we're all hanging in there and figuring this out as we go.

We actually did make it out of the house a few times this month and not just to the Dr's office (Mommy gets a little stir crazy)! Our very first outing with the girls was to Five Guys with Kelly and Adam. They were only 2 1/2 weeks old so we waited until about 2:00 that Saturday afternoon and we kept they're carriers covered the entire time! No one saw them and they didn't see anyone! Our second outing was to Groucho's Deli with Uncle Ryan, Aunt Steph, Coleman and Emily. They came for a visit and they happen to love Groucho's. Of course the girls were perfectly behaved both times...as if we expected any less from our little angels! My favorite outing of their first month was just the other day, though. My mom took off work and we took the girls shopping for the first time. We left the house a little after 12:00, met my dad for lunch, went to World Market, then to Target (where they had their first feeding and diaper change in the dressing room), by Rush's for a milkshake and on to Kohl's! We were gone for almost 6 hours! It was so wonderful to be out with them; not to mention it had been over a month since I had been to Target and was having major withdrawals! It made me feel like I had some control over the whole caregiver of twins thing and that there actually is hope that I'll be able to one day be in public all by myself with them (although I can't imagine when that day will come)! Unfortunately we also had our first sick baby visit in addition to our 1 week and 2 week visits. Somehow...somewhere the girls got some kind of viral thing (I can only imagine the first of so many to come) and they had some nasty noses and congestion. Thankfully it was nothing serious and easily treated with some nasal drops:)

The girls had lots of visitors their first month. Everyone just loves them to pieces!! Here are just a few pics of the past 30 days. A big thanks to Brad and Allie for giving us our Picky Stickies!! We love them and look forward to 11 more months of pics!!

Our Greatest Loves...Laney & Madilyn

I've had all intentions of making this post several times over the past 3 1/2 weeks...but, believe it or not have just not been able to make the time to do it!

Laney & Madilyn were born February 10 at 7:51am and 7:53am. The 10th is a pretty special day in my family because it's my Uncle Charles' birthday. We all miss him so much and it really means a lot to have our girls share his day with him. They would have really adored him! Madilyn is the big sister, both in age and size! She weighed 5lbs 14oz and was 19 inches. We just love her chubby cheeks! Laney is definitely the little sister and my little baby! She weighed 4lbs 110z but was also 19 inches. She may be the smaller one but she won't be having this for long. She's doing all she can to catch up to her big sister!

The girls were born just two days shy of 37 weeks but made it apparent that they needed a little longer to bake before they were ready to face the real world. Saturday was our day to come home but we found out early that morning that the girls weren't going to make it. It's so upsetting to think about leaving your precious little ones behind! They had both lost about 10% of their birth weight. They were put on a high calorie formula to beef them up and we had all hopes of them coming home the next day. Unfortunately we found out about 1:30 am Sunday morning that both girls were being readmitted back to special care because neither of them could keep themselves warm!

Fortunately the hospital offered first come, first serve rooms for parents to stay in while their babies are in special care. It wasn't exactly the epitome of comfort but at least we were able to be with them around the clock. They spent the next few days in incubators and finally got to come home Wednesday, a week after their birthdays.

We've been busy these last few weeks...getting to know these little angels and trying to adjust to our new rolls as mommy and daddy! One thing that Casey and I are so sure of is that we are so truly blessed to have these little ones! You just can't believe how the first time you hear that sweet little cry (or cries in our case) will change your life in an instant!
